📜 History of Kanak Bhawan
Kanak Bhawan is one of the most sacred temples in Ayodhya, dedicated to Lord Rama and Goddess Sita. According to Hindu mythology, this palace was gifted to Mata Sita by Queen Kaikeyi as a "Muh Dikhai" gift immediately after her wedding to Lord Rama.
Why is it called 'Kanak Bhawan'?
The word 'Kanak' means 'Gold'. It is believed that the original palace was entirely made of gold. The temple was first built by King Vikramaditya.
Renovation
The present structure was renovated in 1891 AD by Maharani Vrishbhanu Kunwari of Orchha. The temple is a magnificent example of Bundela architecture and is three stories tall.
Unique Feature
The sanctum sanctorum houses the idols of Lord Rama, Sita, and Lakshman in their childhood form, which is very rare to find in other temples.

Important Instructions for Visitors:
- Dress Code: Wear traditional Indian clothes. Avoid shorts, sleeveless tops, or short dresses.
- Footwear: Remove shoes/slippers before entering the main temple premises.
- Photography: Taking photos inside the Garbh-Griha (sanctum) is strictly prohibited.
- Prasad: The Khasta-Kachori and Peda prasad from here is very famous.
- Crowd: Expect heavy crowds during Ram Navami and Vivah Panchami. Plan accordingly.
- Mobile Phones: Keep your phone on silent mode inside the temple.
- Cleanliness: Maintain cleanliness. Do not litter in the temple complex.
