📜 History of Hanumangarhi
Hanumangarhi is one of the most important temples in Ayodhya, dedicated to Lord Hanuman. According to belief, this is the place where Hanuman ji lives to protect Ayodhya as its Kotwal. Before visiting Ram Janmabhoomi, devotees first take Hanuman ji's permission here.
Why is it called 'Hanumangarhi'?
The word 'Garhi' means 'Fort'. The temple is built like a four-sided fort on a hilltop. It is believed that Nawab Shuja-ud-Daulah donated the land and Nirvani Akhara constructed the temple in the 18th century.
Renovation
The present structure was built in the mid-18th century. The temple is accessed by 76 steps and is a prime example of fort-like architecture in Ayodhya.
Unique Feature
The temple houses a 6-inch tall idol of Bal Hanuman sitting on his mother Anjani's lap. Hanuman ji is worshipped here as the King of Ayodhya and protector of Ram Nagri.

Important Instructions for Visitors:
- Dress Code: Wear modest clothes. Avoid shorts, sleeveless tops, or short dresses.
- Footwear: Remove shoes/slippers before climbing the 76 steps.
- Photography: Taking photos inside the main Garbh-Griha is prohibited.
- Prasad: Laddoo and Besan ke Laddoo are very famous here.
- Crowd: Expect heavy crowds on Tuesdays, Saturdays and Hanuman Jayanti. Plan accordingly.
- Mobile Phones: Keep your phone on silent mode inside the temple.
- Cleanliness: Maintain cleanliness. Do not litter on the steps or temple complex.
